Biografie
Mijn belangrijkste interesse ligt binnen het domein van pijn, centrale pijnverwerking en manuele therapie / musculoskeletale fysiotherapie. Daarnaast heb ik een grote interesse in de kennis en attitude rondom pijn bij zorgprofessionals, studenten en binnen onderwijsprogramma’s. In beide domeinen doe ik wetenschappelijk onderzoek.

Klinisch ben ik werkzaam als manueel therapeut bij Expertisecentrum Fysiotherapie in Groningen. Daarnaast ben ik docent aan de Hanze in Groningen (bachelor fysiotherapie) en de Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. Daar verzorg ik onderwijs over pijn, neurofysiologie, centrale pijnverwerking en pijnmetingen in de master Musculoskeletal Physiotherapeutic Sciences.

Ik zit in de eindfase van mijn PhD, onder supervisie van prof. dr. Wendy Scholten-Peeters en prof. dr. Michel Coppieters, waar ik onderzoek doe naar het effect van manuele therapie op centrale pijnmechanismen bij patiënten met nekpijn.

Presentatie
This interactive workshop focuses on patients with spinal pain who present in diverse and sometimes complex ways in daily practice. Together, we will explore how differences in presentation influence clinical reasoning, underlying pain mechanisms, and potential intervention strategies. Attention will also be given to the patient narrative and how communication and context shape assessment and treatment choices.

Participants can expect an engaging and practice-oriented session in which active involvement is central. Through case discussions, small group exchanges, and guided reflection, therapists will be encouraged to think critically, share experiences, and translate theory into clinical decision-making. The learning environment is designed to be open, safe, and collaborative, allowing room for questions, uncertainty, and professional growth.

The primary goal of this workshop is immediate applicability. Insights and tools gained during the session are intended to be directly transferable to clinical work, enabling participants to refine their reasoning process and broaden their therapeutic repertoire. By the end of the workshop, attendees will leave with practical perspectives and concrete strategies they can confidently implement with their own patients the very next working day.
